Alexey Titarenko

Alexey Titarenko was born in 1962, in the town of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). His body of work ranges from his early work, commentary on the communist regime, “nomenclatura of signs” to his later work “City of Shadows” (pictured above). His use of long exposure creates a spectral, haunted look to the cities he portrays. As an abstract artist myself, i was drawn to the long exposure technique that cultivates these abstracted emotions and ideas.

I adore the creative space that long exposure photos can give us to play with and experiment in. I feel like Titarenko’s work really hits the meat of what can be done in this space, stretching time, emotion, motion, and the relationship of space and time.
